*****Recently dined in the restaurant and loved it. FOOD, DRINKS, and best of all - ATMOSPHERE. What a refreshing change from the usual chain type settings. The experience was never rushed and we were encouraged to enjoy the moments and relax. My suggestion: try the beer brewed on-site. Great northwoods appeal.

Certainly this restaurant was a disappointment. As very experienced diners in high-end cuisine, both my significant other and I found this menu less than fulfilling. We both left the Hinterland feeling that we did not get enough to eat after spending over $150.00. I have a moderate appetite, and my significant other has an appetite that could be considered, "dainty."
The atmosphere and building were quite charming. Our server was somewhat attentive - but far from polished. The appetizers and courses were prepared and seasoned nicely, and it was obvious the chef was very experienced. The presentation and arrangement was very nice for each plate. The two problems with the main courses were the following:
First, and most importantly, both different steak entrees we selected were sliced into 1/4" cuts(approximately 3 1/2" in length). Only four to five cuts were portioned to each meal. I would speculate each entree contained less than three or four ounces of steak.
Second, the meat portions sliced as such do not retain heat for a long period, and arrived at less than a warm temperature. We have both have had sliced steak previously, however, immediate delivery is imperative.
Prior to the meal, we were served two tiny house rolls, and two unusually small appetizers. I was able to observe 6 other people from my seat. Every man and woman in my view had finished every morsel of food they were served. The portion sizes were ridiculously small - almost "childlike." I felt like I had only had an appetizer after leaving.
In closing, I've paid hundreds of dollars at dinner for two. In my opinion, though, no entree selection should leave a customer hungry - that's a cardinal rule! A ripoff by way of poor portioning indeed!
